Languages Day

Today we have celebrating languages in each of our phase groups. In each lesson children have been able to learn about languages spoken in a number of countries and then apply their new vocabulary in art activities, cooking and games. I was able to see a number of lessons and the energy and enjoyment, not to mention learning in each room was a pleasure to see. Many thanks to the staff who have worked hard to prepare for the day, especially Mrs Kiely who organised the event.  I hope you all enjoyed the day too.

Well it’s the end of our first full week back at school. The leadership team are all very proud of the start that everyone has made back at school this year, and everyone is looking forward to the start of our Eid celebrations with assemblies next Friday. We have had a number of friends and visitors in school this week who have all been extremely impressed by what they have seen. A brilliant start to our new term – Keep it up everyone. well done! Welcome back

Welcome back to another school year everyone.  We have some new children and a few new adults around the place, and there have been some big changes to the building over the summer too.  I hope staff and children alike are settling into their new classes.  Last week, in our first assemblies, we thought about learning challenges.  We want everyone to set a goal to change or improve something.  We also talked aboput not giving up, and thought about where we could find help and support.  Miss Offord and I have both set ourselves a challenge, and I look forward to seeing if we achieve them by July.

Good luck to all of year 6, who are taking their Key Stage 2 SATs next week. You’ve all been working hard in school, and there’s still time for some revision at home! Once SATs are over we can relax and enjoy your last few weeks of Primary school. A big thank you to parents and families for making sure that the children are in school and on time – it makes a huge difference. Thanks,
Mr C

Well done to everyone in school. Since we first introduced the attendance Improvement Model we have seen a steady increase.
During Maths week we hit our weekly target of 95% for the first time ever! If we can do it once we can do it every week!
A special well done to 5S who have had 100% attendance this is great – keep up the good work!

Holidays!

It’s been a really successful half term, and I think both staff and children are ready for a break to re-charge our batteries!

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable half term holiday, and that we all return safe and well on Monday 3rd November ready for another term of hard work.

After the holidays we will be launching our new house points system.  Every child will be placed in one of the four houses Earth, Air, Fire, Water, as will the staff.  We have tried our best to keep family groups together.    The children will be able to earn points for good work and good behaviour, and there will be rewards through the year for the house with the most points.

A letter will be coming home soon detailing a number of Attendance events that will give parents the opportunity to voice their opinions, and become more familiar with the Manchester guidelines, which all schools must follow.

We also aim to start a dad’s group that will meet in school – more information will follow shortly.

Have a safe holiday,

best wishes,

Mr C.

Attendance.

Congratulations  to everyone in school.  Over Eid our attendance maintained 75%, and our running total is 89%.  We can still do better though – our school target, like all Manchester schools is 95%

I am over the moon that 14 classes achieved 95% attendance last week – please keep it up!

Some families have recieved letters this week, and I understand that this has caused some upset, however we are only operating within the Manchester school guidance on attendance, and if your child’s attendance is below 80% you will be liable for a penalty notice, or in extreme cases prosecution, whatever the reasons.

I am sure that everyone wants their children to do well, and in order to make good progress children must be in school.

Congratulations again on last week, particularly 3S and 4B.  Let’s keep up the good work!

Mr. C

I can’t believe that it is September, and we are already back to school.  There have been a lot of changes to school over the summer holidays, and I hope that you all think they have been worthwhile.  We have also updated the staffroom, and I know all of the staff are really pleased with their new space.  I am really excited about the first two days of term – the children have settled into their new classes well, and the atmosphere in school is really positive!  I look forward to seeing you all over the coming weeks, and will be back soon with information about the new house system we are introducing.

Summer Holidays!

The weather isn’t great, but it’s time to start the summer holidays!

We have achieved such a lot this year, and while there have been many changes I hope that people are beginning to see the benefits.  At this time of year we have staff moving on, and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.  In preperation for September there are many changes, new teachers, new classes and not to mention the massive amount of renovation work that will take place over the holiday.  Miss Offord and I are really excited about the opportunities we have to work together to make next year an even bigger success.

I would like to wish each and every Y6 child the very best of luck in their future school career, I know they have enjoyed their end to year 6, and their time at Birchfields, and I am sure these memories will stay with them forever.

I would also like to thank all parents and carers for their support, and encourage you all to stay involved with activities at school next year.

I am sure everyone agrees that the staff and children have worked extremely hard, and are ready for a break! I wish everyone a safe summer, and look forward to welcoming back those children and families who are returning to us in September.

It’s almost the end of term, and this week we have our celebrations week!  There are so many things going on celebrating all of the really good opportunities that we have at Birchfields.  Organising the events has been a lot of hard work for the teachers too.  We have performances, our Olympic themed sports days, activities and workshops for parents, and on Friday we have our medal ceremonies to celebrate our achievements on sports day, and the chance for families to come and look around our classrooms at all the fantastic work that has been going on.  I hope everyone has a fun week and keeps working hard as we get ever closer to the end of the school year.
